Jesus Christ - Christology

Is Jesus God?

The clear teaching of scripture is that Jesus Christ is very God.  Hebrews 1:8  "But of the Son [He says],  'Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.'" God the Father expresses the true deity of the Son.  This comparison of angels to the Son clarifies that The angels are not only less in value but in nature.  They are created beings, Christ is God.

In Colossians 1 the Son is declared to have created all things.   Colossians 1:16  "For by Him all things were created, [both] in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created by Him and for Him.  17  And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  18  He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything."   We can see that Christ not only creates all things, but that He holds all things together by His power.

Was Jesus born of a virgin?

The accounts of the birth of Christ are consistent in presenting  the birth of Jesus to be that of a virgin.  Matthew 1:23  "Behold, the  virgin  shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, 'God with us.'  24  And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took [her] as his wife,  25  and kept her a  virgin  until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus."  This and the other gospel present not only use the word virgin but the context of which shows He was born of a women who had never been with a man.

There are only two reasons for one to reject this doctrine: 1) The anti-supernaturalist view of human experience, i.e God does not intervene in human history;  2) The desire to diminish the value of the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.

Was Jesus raised from the dead and is he alive today in a real body?

The disciples were waiting in the upper room in Jerusalem and suddenly the resurrected Lord appeared to them.  He asked them if they had food.  They gave Him food and He ate.  He asked them to handle his body to inspect the wounds of the crucifixion.  They did.  This shows the real physical body not a phantasmal body.

Luke 24:33  "And they arose that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them,  34  saying, 'The Lord has really risen, and has appeared to Simon.'  35  And they [began] to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.  36  And while they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst.  37  But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit.  38  And He said to them, 'Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?  39  See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.'  40  [And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.]  41  And while they still could not believe [it] for joy and were marveling, He said to them, 'Have you anything here to eat?'  42  And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;  43  and He took it and ate [it] before them."

How can you prove that Jesus is the Messiah?

There are so many prophecies in the Old Testament that show who the Messiah will be.  These prophecies show that it could be no other than Jesus of Nazareth.  The possibility of the Messiah being one other than Christ is statistically impossible.  I would encourage you to order a series of messages I preached at Scott Memorial Community Church a few years ago called, “The Irrefutable Evidences of the Messiahship of Christ.”    Contact Grace San Diego at (619) 280-1495 or write at .
